I am going on 4 years of non smoking. I took A+ Smoker’s Control® and quit in 3 days. Ask my husband. Down from 4 packs a day for 30 years and then it was none. I had already done the damage

About Dr. Knowles

Dr. Knowles is a board certified anesthesiologist practicing in South Florida.  A native Floridian, Dr. Knowles moved back to Florida after ending time in service from the Army in 2005.  A veteran of the Iraq War, Dr. Knowles was a “card-carrying member” of the military since 1987.

Through adversity comes strength.  Dr. Knowles grew up in a smoking household.  “Smoking was ingrained in our activities of daily living.  I didn’t know the hazards at that time, like many people.”  Life would change dramatically for Dr. Knowles.  Shortly after starting his anesthesia residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Medical Center, Dr. Knowles became well aware the dangers of smoking.  He saw, first hand, the disease processes, either directly or indirectly, related to smoking.  From lung resections to cancer and emphysema, endarterectomies (surgical removal of plaque from an artery), to open heart bypass.  One of the turning points was when Dr. Knowles would be called to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to intubate (place a breathing tube) in patients he knew would not leave the hospital without some sort of breathing assistance (such as a tracheostomy), if they left the hospital alive/breathing at all.   Another turning point was October, 1999.  Dr. Knowles’ grandmother had passed away.  “Many people had a cold or cough at the funeral, including my father.  Two months later my fathers ‘cold’ hadn’t resolved.”  Three months after that Dr. Knowles’ father died from complications of metastatic lung cancer.  Two weeks later was the birth of his first grandchild, Dr. Knowles’ daughter, Ysabella.  “I knew of his diagnosis and was sure I’d have enough time for my daughter to be born and I could fly down to let him see her before he died.  That didn’t happen.”

Since that time Dr. Knowles made it a point to gently remind people the hazards of smoking.  “I spoke with my father about smoking cessation until I was blue in the face.  It got to the point where he told me if I didn’t stop badgering him, he would stop speaking to me.  If I knew then what I know now, there’s a possibility he might be alive today.”

From that experience, Dr. Knowles’ attitude toward smoking cessation shifted.  He was more determined than ever to make a difference.  “Smoking cessation isn’t leading a horse to water and expecting it to drink, it’s letting the horse know water is available and you will help it drink when it’s ready.”

But Dr. Knowles was not happy with the success rates of the current smoking cessation aids and didn’t understand, or agree with, nicotine replacement therapy.  Knowledge of the mechanism of action of nicotine with the dopaminergic system and the similarities with other drugs of addiction (such as cocaine, amphetamines, and heroin) lead Dr. Knowles to work with leading laboratories to formulate a nicotine-free, nonprescription smoking cessation aid powerful enough to raise the success rates / compete with the nicotine replacement therapies.  “There are ingredients in A+ Smoker’s Control™ which have been used in third world countries for centuries to help people break heroin addiction with a safety profile rivaling those of some over the counter pain medicines.”
